The Dental Implant
Dental implants are titanium structures
placed in the bone of the jaws to provide
support and provide anchorage for
prosthetic teeth. They can help replace
anything from a single missing tooth
to a full set.
The effect can be truly life enhancing,
replacing lost function, equilibrium and
social confidence by restoring and
rejuvenating your smile.
Oral health is restored by the
re-establishment of harmony
in the mouth.

This is an Astra-Tech implant made by Astra-Zeneca. In most cases we find these are the best implants available, although in some cases we use alternatives where indicated.
The diagram to the left shows an implant and an abutment. The top third is the abutment which is the part that protrudes through the gum and provides a simple attachment to the crown, bridgework or denture. The bottom two-thirds is the body of the implant which is placed below the gum-line, into the bone of the jaw.
Modern-day implants are shaped like the root
of a tooth. The most advanced implants have a surface that is specially engineered
and coated provide a greater surface area for bone-to-implant contact and to enhance the bone-forming ability of the cells.

On occasion, we use ,other types of implant, where their particular shape would form a better connection with your jaw. Our priority is always to use the best implant available for each and every placement.
